❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about MathEditor, its features, and how to use it.

What is MathEditor?
MathEditor is a free online LaTeX math editor with real-time preview. It also includes a suite of math tools: graphing calculator, scientific calculator, matrix calculator, equation solver, statistics calculator, unit converter, number base converter, and geometry calculator.
Is MathEditor really free?
Yes, MathEditor is completely free to use. There are no paid plans, no registration required, and no hidden fees. All features including the LaTeX editor and all math tools are available without charge.
Do I need to create an account?
No account or registration is required. MathEditor runs entirely in your browser. Your formulas, history, and preferences are stored locally using your browser's localStorage.
How do I use the LaTeX editor?
Simply type LaTeX code in the editor panel and see the rendered formula instantly in the preview panel. Use the symbol toolbar to insert commands, or type backslash (\\\\) for auto-complete suggestions. The editor supports all standard LaTeX math commands.
Can I export my formulas?
Yes, you can copy the LaTeX source, copy as MathML, copy as text, or export as PNG image using the export buttons below the preview panel.
Does it work offline?
MathEditor requires an internet connection for the initial load (KaTeX library from CDN). Once loaded, the editor works offline for the current session. All your data is stored in your browser's localStorage.
How do I share a formula?
Use the URL sharing feature —when you edit a formula, the LaTeX code is encoded in the page URL hash. Copy the URL from your browser's address bar and share it with anyone.
What browsers are supported?
MathEditor works on all modern browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, and Opera. It also works on mobile browsers. Internet Explorer is not supported.
What is the graphing calculator?
The graphing calculator lets you plot mathematical functions interactively. You can plot up to 3 functions simultaneously, adjust the viewing window, and explore function behavior visually.
How do I use the scientific calculator?
The scientific calculator supports trigonometric functions (sin, cos, tan), logarithms, exponentials, factorials, and more. Click the buttons or use your keyboard. The calculation history is preserved during your session.
What is the Chemistry tool?
The Chemistry tool helps you write and balance chemical equations, calculate molecular weights, and understand stoichiometry. It's perfect for chemistry students and researchers.
What is the Calculus tool?
The Calculus tool helps compute derivatives, integrals, and limits step-by-step. It's an interactive learning tool for calculus students at all levels.
What is the Probability Distribution Calculator?
This tool calculates values for common probability distributions including Normal, Binomial, Poisson, and Uniform. It shows probabilities, percentiles, and visualizes distributions.
What is the Prime Number Tools?
The Prime Number Tools include prime factorization, GCD/LCM calculation, primality testing, and prime counting. Essential for number theory and cryptography studies.
What is the LaTeX Table Generator?
The LaTeX Table Generator lets you visually build tables and export them as LaTeX code. Set the number of rows/columns, fill in content, and copy the generated LaTeX code.
